CMS Medicare Fraud Scheme Identified | Michael Tidd, COS-C, HCS-D
CMS has identified a Medicare Fraud Scheme and is alerting agencies to protect patient PHI.
The only information CMS is able to provide is that agencies are receiving faxes from an unknown entity posing as CMS falsely notifying the agency they are undergoing a Medicare audit and requesting medical records and documentation.
CMS provides guidance that they DO NOT initiate an audit via a fax. If you receive a suspicious request, DON’T RESPOND. If you think it is fraudulent or questionable, work with your Medical Review Contractor to confirm it’s legitimacy. Agencies can locate their Medical Review Contractor at the following link.
